December’s Writer

We are pleased to announce that our December writer is Cecilia Pinto, who will be sharing her prose piece, The Dragon Imelda. We will be installing her work this weekend. We will announce the location on our site very soon, so make sure to check back.

In the meantime, congratulations to Cecilia!

Cecilia Pinto is a writer working in various genres and have published fiction, poetry and non-fiction. She is a graduate of the writing program at the School of the Art Institute and teaches writing at the Chicago High School for the Arts.

November’s Installation at Uptown Bikes

On November 1st we will be installing Racquel Malone’s poem, FallopianOde, at Uptown Bikes.

We are so happy to have found a great partner in the neighborhood that Malone requested, and a location that is so easy to get to! We are also proud to partner with a women-owned business to present this particular poem.

Uptown Bikes is right across the street from the Wilson Red Line stop, and only a few blocks from the Lawrence stop.

We have selected our winning writer for November. Congratulations to Racquel Malone!

Racquel Malone is a Chicago native and writer of poetry, screen + stage plays and songs. She studied theatre and media at Northeastern Illinois University. She is currently working on a short film titled koko, at last and of course, more poetry. When not writing, Racquel works in various theatres across the city. She plans to start a media company in the very near future to give a much needed platform to writers everywhere.

Racquel’s poem, FallopianOde, will be up and running soon. Check back in a few days to find out where.

“Execution Points” at CMM Framing

Documenting “Execution Points” by Emily Parenti at CMM Framing was especially fun. The area was bustling on Friday evening, and we got to explain the project to plenty of curious onlookers.

Plus, we couldn’t be happier with our spot in the window. The salvaged wood backdrop and surrounding plants and cacti make for a great vignette, not to mention the incredible art and design pieces all over the walls.

The windows reflect some of Chicago’s most iconic buildings, which make for some fantastic overlays and juxtapositions because of the poem’s Chicago setting.

Come by and see it for yourself anytime through Sunday, October 25th!

October’s Writer

(Drumroll please…) Our October writer is Emily Parenti!

Emily Parenti is a writer and recent graduate of DePaul University’s English Literature and Professional Writing programs. During the 2013-2014 academic year, she served as Co- Editor-in-Chief of the university’s literary magazine, Crook & Folly, which publishes graduate and undergraduate creative work. She has since worked as an editor on various other projects, including a chapbook distributed by a new Chicago-based journal of creative nonfiction, Slag Glass City.

Emily’s poem, Execution Points, will be on view at CMM Framing for the first three weeks of October. Literature Emitting Diodes is proud to be included in Chicago Artists Month, and we are excited to feature Emily’s work as part of it.

October’s Installation at CMM Framing

CMM Framing has graciously partnered with us for the month of October. Our LED display will be in the window of their beautiful contemporary frame shop in the West Loop. At 218 N. Halsted St., CMM Framing is just a few blocks from the Morgan stop on the Pink and Green CTA lines.

We are especially excited to be located among the West Loop’s world class galleries during Chicago Artists Month, and at a business that caters to artists and art lovers!

If you have framing needs, visit CMM Framing 11-7 on weekdays, Saturdays from 10-5 or Sundays from 12-5. If all you really need is great literature on a scrolling LED display, then stay tuned for our installation announcement!

3 More Days to See “Packrats” by Lisa Torem

Sadly, we will be removing our current installation in the evening of this Thursday, the 24th.

That means you still have three days to view our current work, Packrats, by Chicago author and journalist Lisa Torem. Take advantage of this swell fall weather and get out to Lincoln Square while you still can!

Fortunately, Laurie’s Planet of Sound won’t be going anywhere, so even after Thursday you’ll be able to get new and used vinyl, books, movies and more. Our installation is just a few steps from the Brown Line stop at Western and there’s plenty of parking nearby. Don’t miss it!

Photographing “Packrats”

We had a blast documenting Lisa Torem’s poem, Packrats, at Laurie’s Planet of Sound. With the sounds of the German-American Fest in the background, we basked in the combined glow of neon and LED and shot video and photos from the bustling sidewalk. The lively scene and curious onlookers confirmed our belief that Literature Emitting Diodes really can bring good writing to an appreciative public in an unexpected way.

Chicago Artists Month!

Today we received the exciting news that Literature Emitting Diodes is included as an official exhibition/installation for the 2015 Chicago Artists Month.

We have yet to announce the featured writer or location of the piece, since we are still accepting submissions. We will announce that information on this site, our Facebook page, and the Chicago Artists Month list of exhibitions as soon as we have selected our October writer. We are still accepting submissions for October until September 5th, so send in your work for a chance to have your writing in the Chicago Artists Month!
