Literature Emitting Diodes has a new opportunity for writers in the Mid-Missouri area!

Thanks to the Columbia Daily Tribune, and the City of Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs, we are launching our first contest in our new home, Columbia.

Submitting is simple and secure: just fill out this Google Form hosted by the Tribune. The rules and deadlines are also copied below:

Submit your unpublished works of poetry or prose up to 500 words below. Entries accepted through June 30, 2017.
One piece will be selected for public display in downtown Columbia on a scrolling LED sign plus a $200 cash prize will be awarded courtesy of Columbia’s Office of Cultural Affairs.

OFFICIAL RULES
(Please read completely before making your submission.)

We welcome unpublished poetry and fiction submissions of up to 500 words.

Authors must be age 16 or older at the time of submission and reside in one of these Missouri counties: Boone, Cole, Callaway, Audrain, Randolph, Howard, Cooper or Moniteau.
Entrants may be students who are enrolled locally at any time April – August, 2017.

You may submit up to three unpublished pieces of poetry or prose. Simultaneous submissions are fine providing you withdraw your piece immediately if accepted elsewhere.

Word counts will be processed in advance of reading. Entries that exceed 500 words will be disqualified and will not be read. The LED display is limited to 500 words.

Because the winning piece will be displayed in a public venue in Columbia, the writing must be appropriate for a general audience. No gratuitous violence, sex, hate speech or curse words will be accepted.

If you are submitting multiple pieces, please submit each piece in a separate field.
Your formatting will not be retained by the LED display. All standard English letters, numerals and punctuation will display.

Submissions will be judged by a panel of creative writing professionals. One winner will be selected from all submissions.

The winner will receive $200 cash and publication of their work on a designated LED sign in a visible Columbia, MO location; details to come.

The deadline for submission is Friday, June 30, 2017, 11:59 pm.

No purchase necessary.
